Postnatal support with SR Adéle is a calm, unhurried appointment where you can ask all of it. She is a registered midwife who has seen thousands of Pretoria babies through these weeks, and nothing you say will shock her.

What a postnatal visit includes

Weighing and measuring your baby and tracking growth over time. A feeding check, whether you are breastfeeding, bottle feeding or doing both. Practical guidance on sleep, settling, winding and routine. A look at the everyday things that worry new parents – cord care, skin, nappies and reflux questions. And time to talk through anything that is on your mind. 

Where something needs a doctor, we will say so and help you take the next step. 

A postnatal consult lasts a full hour, so there is no rush and no watching the clock. It costs R400.00 per consult, and if you would like to come back, each follow-up is simply booked and billed as another consult.

When to come in

Many moms come in during the first week or two after going home, then again as feeding settles and around the six-week mark. Others come whenever a question keeps them up at night. There is no wrong time and no minimum problem – if you are wondering, that is reason enough. 

Looking after you, not just baby

Your recovery matters as much as your baby’s weight chart. We will ask how you are eating, sleeping and coping, and we will listen properly to the answer. If you would like it, we can also talk through the small daily habits and supplements many moms find supportive in these weeks.

Postnatal consults are held at Zuid-Afrikaans Hospital, Main Entrance Corridor, 255 Bourke Street, Muckleneuk, Pretoria, 0002, inside Dr. Jana Bloem’s Consulting Room. We are open Monday to Friday, 07:00 to 16:00. We do not offer home visits, so that every mom gets the same unhurried hour in a private, properly equipped room.
